Prof Julia Rucklidge: Transforming Mental Health with Nutrition

Welcome to our podcast, where we explore the powerful impact of nutrition on preventing mental health issues. What if there was a way to treat mental health conditions that didn't rely solely on traditional psychiatric medications, with all their limitations and potential side effects?

In this episode, we have the privilege of speaking with Professor Julia Rucklidge, a clinical psychologist and Professor of Psychology in Christchurch, NZ. She is a TedTalk speaker and author of "The Better Brain," which explores the limitations of traditional psychiatric medications and proposes a new paradigm of mental health through nutrition.I feel a special connection with Julia and her work as she has lived in 2 places that are dear to my heart, NZ and Canada where I have family.

Mental and emotional disorders can result from disordered brain biochemistry, and traditional psychiatric medications have limitations such as treatment resistance, variability in recovery rates, relapses, and side effects. Despite this, these disorders remain an epidemic today, and some argue they are on the rise.

By the end of this episode, you'll discover

  • ·       a bold new paradigm of mental health that breaks away from traditional methods and explores the role of nutrition in optimizing mental health especially acute stress, emotional dysregulation and mood disorders (ADHD)

  • ·       the benefits of a balanced diet and individual responses to micronutrient therapy.

  • ·       difference between a balanced diet and supplements and why single nutrient research is underwhelming compared to a combined nutrient approach (at the right doses)

  • ·       how to measure the effects of micronutrients, the onset of action, and the recommended duration of trial.
